  Cabin Fever (2002)

Boy Meets Diseased World.

Review: Synopsis: Five friends vacationing at a log cabin encounter a flesh-eating disease.

Eli Roth, what were you thinking when you made this? Even though the cost was low at a budget of $1.5M, how was the script and the final cut approved? Despite the decent production values, the movie falters in so many areas. The dialog is among the worst ever (especially the pointless and repetitive use of the F word), all the characters are complete morons, and the actions they take will make you root for their early demise.

If it wasn't for the natural beauty of Jordan Ladd and the enhanced beauty of Cerina Vincent, this movie would be unwatchable. Rider Strong ("Boy Meets World") ends up being a very weak protagonist and James DeBello plays the same obnoxious goon as the one in 100 Girls. There is a massive amount of blood & gore and some good FX, but it can't make up for the annoying final product.

Okay after a quick bite to eat, I watched the well-done Behind the Scenes feature. It's interesting and provides good insight into Eli and his goal for this picture. Although the homage to 70's and 80's horror films (namely Evil Dead) are clear and appealing to this horror fan, it doesn't improve my initial feelings after this first viewing. It may be more enjoyable next time and after the initial disappointment wears off, but I didn't buy into its campy qualities and the frustration factor was just too high.
