Paura nella città dei morti viventi (1980) (AKA City of the Living Dead)

Suicidal priest curses city.

Review: Horrors arise from a cursed city where a priest committed suicide. The ghost of the priest and his zombie minions return to terrorize the living. After a woman (Catriona MacColl) dies during a séance in which she has visions of the priest, a reporter (Christopher George) investigates her death and resurrection and they team up to uncover the mystery.

It was a tad confusing at first as I tried to figure out who was who, where the events were occurring and exactly what was going on, but Lucio Fulci delivers a dandy horror film filled with numerous graphic scenes of blood and gore.

From the frothy-mouthed death scene to the abandoned house to the buried alive escape to the organ vomiting to the head drilling to the flying maggot storm, CotLD will leave you impressed with the level of quality achieved by the FX department.

There's no exposed skin, but Antonella Interlenghi (who played the psychiatrist's daughter, Emily Robbins) looked exceptional in her brief time on screen.

City of the Living Dead is an Italian zombie flick worth viewing. It's far less frustrating than many of the others in the subgenre. The ending is a bit of a letdown, but everything before it was enjoyable.
