  The Grudge (2004)

Cursed in Translation.

Review: Normally I don't like the tactic of trying to scare the audience by having things suddenly jump into view usually accompanied by a loud sound, but it's actually used effectively here because the mood of each scene is established so well beforehand. There are some great creepy images, but their time on screen is too brief. Give them more camera time and keep them on a single camera and the fear factor would have been upped considerably. As it is, The Grudge is still a good horror flick with an interesting mythology, great atmosphere, and very good effects. My favorite scene was when Sarah Michelle Gellar made the disturbing discovery while flipping through the photos of the dead professor (Bill Pullman). Recommended.
