  House of the Dead (2003)

Corpses purchase real estate.

Review: A group of young adults travel to an island for a rave party, but find the island overrun with zombies. With the help of a few well-armed individuals, the group fights to stay alive.

Women of House of the Dead

Based on the laughably low user rating at IMDb, I was expecting the worst. House of the Dead is truly an awful movie, but with such low expectations the tiniest positives made it watchable.

Director Uwe Boll made one of the worst decisions in filmmaking history by incorporating constant references and clips from the House of the Dead video games into the movie. The clips detract from the action and ruin the flow of the scenes. I've never played the game, but it looks to be from the Castle Wolfenstein/DOOM-era of first-person shooters. Good games for their time, but not major motion picture material.

More women of House of the Dead

As for the positives, the action sequences are entertaining with a ton of gun play and gory special effects. The amount of detail put into the top-notch zombie makeup and costumes is impressive.

Another big positive are the attractive actresses, some of whom get naked and one that doesn't (Ona Grauer). The eye candy does earn House some points, but it's not enough to push this slick-looking zombie flick into the neighborhood of quality filmdom.

Also, how does Uwe Boll keep getting work? House of the Dead (2003), Alone in the Dark (2005) and BloodRayne (2005) have all received horrible reviews and yet Uwe has five movies in production slated for release in the next three years.
