  Ju-on (2000)

Toshio peeping creepshow.

Review: Yes, I watched the American remake before the Japanese original even though I had both DVDs available. I did the same thing with The Ring and Ringu, so I figured it'd be nice to carry on the tradition. The story in Ju-on encompasses a longer timeline as it continually jumps from the present to the past to the future and back. It makes for a more thorough exploration of the Japanese belief, but it also ends up being more confusing. I was glad I watched them in the order I did as it made it easier to follow the plot of Ju-on after I had already grasped the basics. The American producers clearly had Takashi Shimizu tighten up the story. Recommended.
