Return of the Living Dead: Necropolis (2005)

Teens battle corporate zombies.

Review: I first read about the two new Return of the Living Dead sequels in an article on CNN.com about how a portion of the filming took place at the present-day ghost town that is Chernobyl. That sounded interesting and I was expecting the movies to come out in theaters. Then at the beginning of the week, I saw commercials that they'd be airing on the Sci-Fi channel. Woah, they just snuck up on me.

Once I learned they were going to be TV movies, I was expecting the worst. I just finished watching Part 4 and my expectations were met. Necrap..., er Necropolis, has a lot of problems. First off, the movie cannot decide whether its taking place in America or a foreign country. Both sequels were filmed in Romania and the Ukraine and it is quite evident from the exterior shots in Necropolis that the characters are not running around in the States. Pick a location and go with it.

Peter Coyote is wasted as the corporate scientist and the young teenage leads are all inexperienced. There is some eye candy amongst the group, but not enough to distract you from the awful script. Towards the end, some top-secret zombie super-soldiers—who possess a strong resemblance to the Borg—are introduced with much fanfare, but then fail to do a friggin' thing. Why make a big deal out of them and then have them do nothing except make the film more annoying?

Should I expect much from Rave to the Grave?
