  Shaun of the Dead (2004)

Apocalypse? To the pub!

Review: It took me way too long to finally watch Shaun of the Dead. But now that I have, I can easily say it will be... no scratch that, it is a modern zombie classic.

Shaun is a disillusioned store clerk with four loves in his life: his girlfriend, his mom, his best friend and the local pub. When the world suddenly goes haywire, Shaun and his best friend (once they finally realize what's going on) jump to action to save their friends and loved ones.

Shaun pays a huge homage to Romero's Dead films and all aspects of it are brilliant. Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg wrote a hilarious script; Pegg, Kate Ashfield and Nick Frost are great as the three leads; the zombie makeup and special effects are top notch; and the pacing is perfect.

It's much easier to bash a bad movie than praise a great one, so that's all for this review. An IMDb reviewer sums it up best: "The best rom zom com ever!"
