After Death (Oltre la morte) (1988)

Cursed undead haunts island.

Review: Zombie 4: After Death is the fourth title in the Italian Zombi series of zombie films, which began with Lucio Fulci's Zombi 2. Zombi 3 was abysmal and the tradition continues with this installment.

Candice Daly

An island is once again the setting. A voodoo priest places a curse on the island that raises the dead (BTW, this opening scene is directed and shot horribly). A group of scientists on the island are the first victims. A little girl, the daughter of two of the scientists, is given an idol and is inexplicably able to survive and get off the island on her own.

Years later when the little girl is a grown woman, she and her odd collection of friends return to the island. At the same time, another group of scientists are on the island researching its mysterious legends. This leads to more fun for the zombies as they... well you know. After Death is a low budget production with poor direction (Claudio Fragasso), amateurish acting and an awful story. There is a good amount of bloody gore, but some of the special effects are silly and completely phony looking.

An interesting note about the cast: One of the scientists is played by bisexual male pornstar, Jeff Stryker (see the last screencap).

Babe Alert: Candice Daly, who plays the grownup little girl, is the single highlight. She has a very pretty face and is the only character worth the audience's sympathy. Sadly, Candice passed away in 2004.
